Mountain View Garden Club started out the New Year by sowing Rudbeckia fulgida,
"Black Eyed Susan" seeds on a slope in Wayside Park. This area borders Highway
60 which is a main thoroughfare in town. The club is attempting to establish wildflowers
and forbs among the native grasses already planted by MODOT. The seeds were
graciously donated to the club by FGCM Membership Chairman Elaine Fix of Mid-Central
District.

Mountain View Garden Club Mud Ball Party
February 2010 - We made the seed balls and used flat rocks to paint the names of wildflowers on that we had in two of our wildflower beds near the library. The rocks are used for identification and hopefully education purposes.
The area we threw the mud balls and also the black eyed susan seeds is a quarter of a mile long slope that runs on the North side of our Wayside Park, and borders Highway 60 that runs through town. We have set out coreopsis plants...120 of them, and planted dogwoods and deciduous holly and winter berry hollies at the top of the slope. This is a long term project. We are hoping we get enough wildflower plants established that they will reseed themselves. Each year we add to the mix.

February 2008 - Mountain View Meeting
The Mountain View Garden Club took advantage of a few nice days between the winter storms the
end of February and cleaned out the bluebird houses on their several bluebird trails in the community. Pictured in the back is Lou Hines, the local bird chairman, Jane McLaughlin and Alice Hand. Bluebirds are very early nesters, and start nest building and laying eggs before other birds in the area. One box already had an egg in a nest, and was not disturbed.
Lou's husband, Harmon, built and put up eleven new bluebird boxes in various spots around town for the club. Bird study is a program of the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri, Inc. and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
